Breadwinner Cycles makes handmade, custom bicycles for people who love to ride every day. Each bike we build is one-of-a-kind, a unique expression of craftsmanship, quality, beauty, and the joy and freedom we feel when we ride.

With more than 20 years of combined bicycle design and fabrication experience, award-winning bicycle builders Ira Ryan and Tony Pereira meld their styles and approaches in every Breadwinner bicycle. Each bike is custom made using Columbus steel, time-honored construction techniques and finely tuned geometry.

Proudly built in Portland, Oregon.

Handbuilt in Portland, Oregon

As one of the world’s greatest bicycle cities, Portland has inspired our craft, starting with the riding. We pedal across the city’s bridges, down its alleys, over the West Hills and through Forest Park. Further afield, we ride some of the Pacific Northwest’s best rural gravel roads, ripping singletrack and spectacular asphalt. Each Breadwinner bicycle was born of these places.

Portland has long been a place that fosters artisan makers and small businesses. Those roots—our roots—have allowed the local bike industry to evolve and grow. We’re proud to be part of the next wave of the Portland bike industry, which is creating quality jobs and American-made products.

Every bicycle we make comes from our workshop in Portland. We live and work here because we love it. This is the place we’ve chosen to call home.

Our Process

step number

From the moment you consider ordering a Breadwinner, we’re here to help you make the right decisions. When you’re ready to place your order, we ask for a $500 deposit.

step number

We’ll help you hone in on your vision for your one-of-a-kind bicycle by learning about your bike fit, past bicycles and riding style. We will also help you choose components and paint.

step number

Once you’ve confirmed the design and details, you’ll receive an invoice for the balance. We make the frame by hand in our workshop, then it’s ready for paint.

step number

We assemble your bike in our shop using the right tools and techniques, then carefully pack and ship the bike to your door. Or you can pick it up from us here in Portland.

Your bike will arrive 8 to 12 weeks after you place your order.
