Frequently Asked Questions

How long is your wait?

We don’t have a wait list. We start working on your order within days of receiving it so we can finalize details like fit, design, frame options, parts, and paint. We aim to ship your new Breadwinner 8-12 weeks. Unforeseen parts availability and production delays can occasionally result in longer delivery times, but we are committed to delivering your new bike as quickly as possible.

What are your stock colors?

There are 10 stock paint colors including gloss black, white, metallic silver, Italian red, medium blue, bright green, Eddy orange, Portland grey and brown. Browse our web site for examples. Each of these options includes our standard Breadwinner light blue accents on the seat tube, chainstay and downtube graphics. We offer custom colors and details on request starting at $250.

Can I get custom paint?

Yes absolutely! We offer virtually unlimited options for custom paint starting at $250 and up depending on number of colors, complexity and details requested.

Please get in touch to tell us about your custom paint dreams. Contact us by emailing info@breadwinnercycles.com

Do you do custom sizing?

Yes. All of our bikes are custom designed and made to order to fit you and your riding style.

How does your fitting process work?

Within a few days of placing your order we will send over a questionnaire, which begins a conversation to guide us towards the design of a custom fit Breadwinner just for you. In most cases, we recommend consulting with a professional bike fitter in your area.

Do I need to work with a bike fitter?

We highly recommend it but it is not entirely necessary. We have years of experience evaluating bike fits via email and phone. We will discuss what has worked and what hasn’t and use that conversation to guide us to meet your needs. In some rare cases you may need help from a local in-person fitter, but that is usually not necessary.

The benefits of a professional bike fitting can make it one of the best investments you can put towards your cycling obsession.

A skilled bike fitter won’t just ensure that you are in a great position for your new custom Breadwinner, but for bikes that you already have in your collection. A very skilled bike fitter can even help a rider understand what type of work they can do outside of riding to ensure that they are comfortable, injury free, perhaps even more powerful on the bike.

Breadwinner has an affiliated fitter attached to our HQ here in Portland. Endurance PDX has been providing clinical bike fitting services of the highest quality to our local clients for years. The fitters at Endurance combine clinical physical therapy backgrounds and education with a fanaticism for cycling. They bring the ideal high-tech fitting experience to each rider regardless of body type or experience level.

If you are not local to Portland, we are always happy to help you find the best fitter in your area.

Do you sell complete bikes?

Yes. We prefer our frames to leave the shop ready-to-ride. We work with you to select all the components that work perfectly together, meet your budget and suit your tastes. We then expertly assemble and tune your bike before carefully packing and shipping it to you.

Do you sell frame sets only?

Yes. Most of our framesets leave with at least a Chris King headset and sometimes a bottom bracket installed. We’re also happy to fill in the gaps if you already have some parts on hand.

What tubing do you use?

All Breadwinners are primarily built from a mix of premium Columbus Zona, Spirit and Life tubing.

Can I visit your shop?

Yes! Absolutely! We encourage it. We hope to demystify the custom bicycle building process as much as possible. However, we are a small team working very hard.  If you’d like to talk with one of us in person about your new custom bicycle, please email or call and set up an appointment.

I don’t see the components I want. Can I get ____?

Yes. We have strong relationships with all major parts manufacturers and distributors so we are able to source nearly any part you might want. The custom bike builder on each bike page is designed to give you a great understanding of how we can build your bike and how much it might cost. If there is a special component that is not listed feel free to email us for a quote. We love talking about parts and are happy to help.

We have our favorites and our favorites are typically the components that we keep in stock. We generally offer aggressive, below-retail pricing on stocked bread n’ butter components . After you place your order, we will work with you to specify each and every single component on your bike specifically for your ride style, your performance needs, and your budget.

How do I place an order?

Each order starts with a $500 deposit through our website.

A detailed description can be found on our Process page.

Can I get a quote?

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. We carefully pack and ship all over the world.

Can I pick it up?

Yes. We would love to meet you and show you our shop. We will make an appointment near the completion time of your new bike and have it ready to go. If the stars align, maybe we can even head out for a ride together.

What is your warranty?

We offer a lifetime warranty against defects in materials or workmanship. If your bike breaks because we didn’t do our job right, we will take care of you. This does not cover normal wear and tear, corrosion or crash damage. If something tragic happens to your bike let us know and we’ll figure out the best solution.
