Breadwinner Owner’s Channel 002: Belgian Inspired Duo

Posted on: July 12th, 2016

The Tour de France is well under way and reminds us of two of cycling’s greatest rivalries: Eddy Merckx and Roger de Vlaeminck. These legendary Belgian athletes were fierce competitors in the classics and grand tours of the early 1970s. Both Merckx and de Vlaeminck were known for their hard-man style and Merckx holds the top spot for the greatest of all time in cycling history.

The upper mid-west is known for its tough as nails work ethic and also for its Flemish-like weather for cycling. We have two great customers who love that 70’s cycling style and we built them bikes to pay homage to the Belgian heritage of road racing. Ali and Ed commissioned a pair of Eddy Merckx and Roger de Vlaeminck inspired Breadwinner bicycles.

Ali was the first to pull the trigger. He placed a deposit and began working with Ira to design his Lolo with paint in the likeness of Eddy’s famous Merckx branded Colnago.    Read more…

Order a Breadwinner Holeshot by July 1st and receive it in time for the 2016 cyclocross season.
This is your last chance!

It was on a chilly fall day over 10 years ago that Ira and Tony met at a Cross Crusade Cyclocross race in Portland Oregon. On that day Tony was racing and Ira was spectating. By that time they each had built a handful of frames and were instantly friends.

Flash forward 10 years and the two friends use their frame builder skills and racing experience to make for you the Breadwinner Holeshot cyclocross race machine. Read more…

Silver Star Shred-Fest

Silver Star Shredfest - Copy - Copy
Flyer by 17yr old Breadwinner CX team rider Brian Hart Jr.

**UPDATE –> 9am start time**

We are stoked to promote and help out Breadwinner Cyclocross Team Rider Brian Hart Jr. with this epic ride he put together; The Silver Star Shredfest.

Brain joined the team before the 2015 race season for a number of reasons. Although he is fast (we like to win races) he is a real stand up guy. He, along with the rest of the Hart family, races almost every off-road event there is around the Portland area. We love Brian and his family for their enthusiasm and support of the cycling community. It is common to meet them at the races with the whole family kitted (or clad in their somewhat signature race skirts for the ladies) with a plate of fresh baked cookies or hand-knit Breadwinner beanies.

This epic ride has views that won’t disappoint along it’s ~47 mile route. It’s going to be a gravel grinder’s dream with about 30 miles of gravel.  Read more…

Every company has it origins. Before Breadwinner Cycles was formed by Ira Ryan and Tony Pereira in 2013 they each had successful and respected custom bicycle companies of their own. Tony and Ira followed different paths that ultimately ended where they are today. They still make beautiful custom frames but now under a new brand and with a fresh ethos and business plan.  Read more…

We recently had the pleasure of delivering a custom B-Road for a local customer named Nick who rides a lot. He first came by after placing a deposit in March for a fitting and to show us what he was currently commuting on. His converted Mercier road bike had seen a lot of use but was a good kick-off point for us to design him a bike.    Read more…

Say hello to the Goodwater 27+/29er MTB

Posted on: April 12th, 2016

Goodwater_Green_XTDi2_Pro_Post

Breadwinner is now offering our most capable and well designed single track mountain bike to date.

The GOODWATER, designed for 27+ or 29 inch wheels, has the best combo of nimble handling, craftsmanship and quality for mountain bikers who value superior traction and beautifully crafted lines in a custom, hand-made steel bicycle.

Our customers have enjoyed the fast in-line speed and stability of the XC oriented JB Racer 29er and the slack and aggressive lines of the Bad Otis 27.5er, but there has been a gap between the two. Tony, half of Breadwinner and long-time single track rider, developed the Goodwater to evolve and round out our off-road line up.  Read more…

Photo Set: NAHBS WINNING ARBOR LODGE

Posted on: March 30th, 2016

Do you ever have the feeling something good is about to happen? We did as we were unloading the truck at the Sacramento Convention Center to set up our booth for the North America Hand Built Bike Show this year. We brought 9 bikes and a motorcycle. We knew our booth was well designed and that our bikes were really going to steal the show. Winning isn’t exactly uncharted territory for Ira and Tony but you can’t always predict the future. We were happy with the weekend and that were were able to walk away with the blue ribbon for Best City Bike.
